The body of an eight-year-old Dalit boy,who had gone missing since Tuesday evening, was found at a desolate spot in his village under Haldi police station area of Ballia district late on Wednesday night.

Nakul Yadav,a resident of the same village, has been arrested while two other accused are absconding.

The police have registered a case of murder and under different sections of the Scheduled Caste and Schedule Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The members of the victim’s family and other villagers blocked the road in the morning demanding compensation. Azamgarh SP Arvind Sen,who is looking after the charge of DIG (Azamgarh),said that the blockade was lifted around noon after the villagers were assured of justice.

The police have not ruled out sexual assault on the boy and are awaiting the post-mortem report, which will be conducted by a panel of three doctors.

According to Ballia police, the boy,a resident of Babuapur village under Haldi police station, had gone to attend a marriage in his neighbourhood on Tuesday evening, from where he went missing. The parents initially did not suspect any foul play. However, when they could not locate him anywhere in the village throughout Wednesday, they lodged a missing complaint in the evening, the police said.

The complainant alleged in the FIR that he had heard Nakul Yadav threatening his daughter some time ago that he would kill her brother if she refused to have an affair with him,the police said.
