The commission formed by previous Mayawati government to probe the arrest of two accused in the court serial blasts, which took place in November 2007 in Varanasi,Faizabad and Lucknow, has submitted its report to the government.

The commission headed by retired judge RD Nimesh has sent the report to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav through his secretary.

The report, which is over 1,000 pages, includes statements of 116 witnesses, and documentary evidence. The police witnesses include officials from Lucknow police and UP’s Special Task Force. The commission also met the accused and their families to record their statements.

The police claimed to have arrested alleged HuJI members Tariq Qazmi,a Unani doctor at Azamgarh, and Khalid Mujahid,a madarsa teacher at Jaunpur,on December 22,2007,near Barabanki railway station. It also claims that both were involved in the blasts that occurred in Faizabad and Lucknow courts on November 23,2007.

The families of the two men and some organisations, however, questioned the police version. They said Tariq was picked up by the police on December 12 from Azamgarh and Khalid on December 16 from Jaunpur.
