Alleging connivance between SP and BJP to disturb communal peace in the state, Congress would hold a padyatra in Lucknow on Thursday.
The padyatra, which will start from Mankameshwar Temple and end at Eidgah in Aishbagh area, will be led by AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry, state president Nirmal Khatri and other senior leaders.
Congress spokesperson Virendra Madan said Rajya Sabha MP Raj Babbar would participate in the yatra, along with former MPs from the state.
The other issues that party would raise during the foot march — ‘Sadbhav Yatra – Sadbhav badhao, Abhaav ghatao’ — include alleged neglect of farmers by BJP and SP, price rise and deteriorating law and order in the state.
The march is a part of a series of such padyatras that had started from December 9 last year. It would conclude in Lucknow on Thursday.
UPCC panels wants ex-MLA expelled
The UP Congress Disciplinary Committee has recommended for expulsion of former party MLA Rajendra Sharma for six years for alleged anti-party activities. Sharma was under scanner since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. In the recently held district panchayat elections, the presence of Nawajish Manzoor — son of Samajwadi Party MLA Shahid Manzoor — at Sharma’s residence had raised questions and following which, a probe was ordered, district Congress president Vinay Pradhan said.
On the basis of report submitted on Tuesday by the chairman of the disciplinary committee, Ashok Bharti, it was recommended to State Congress president Nirmal Khatri that Sharma be expelled for six years. The report was also sent to party president Sonia Gandhi.
According to the report, Sharma had planned to defeat Nagma, the party’s candidate from Meeurt in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, and for joining hands with Samajwadi Party leader Shahid Mazoor’s son Nawajish Manzoor during the district panchayat polls. He was also allegedly involved in campaigning for BJP candidate for district panchayat elections.
