CONGRESS MLA Lalitesh Pati Tripati and party workers have been booked for creating ruckus when Mirzapur MP and Union Minister Anupriya Patel arrived to inaugurate a newly-constructed conference hall at district collectorate office Thursday. Police have lodged an FIR against 13 people, including Tripathi, and 20 unidentified persons for allegedly indulging in rioting and wrongful restraint at City Kotwali police station. No arrest has been made so far.
Tripathi, who represents Marihan Assembly seat in Mirzapur, and others have been booked on charges of blocking the movement and damaging the vehicle of the Union minister of state for health and family welfare. They have also been accused of detaining Patel, a leader of BJP ally Apna Dal, for about 15 minutes and showing black flags.
Kotwali police SHO Sanjai Rai said, “Union minister Anupriya Patel had come to the Collectorate Thursday afternoon to inaugurate a conference hall. While her vehicle was moving towards the collectorate, Congress protesters blocked her vehicle and raised slogans. They also pelted stones on the vehicle.”
“The protesters also gherored the minister when she got down from the vehicle. They did not allow her to move ahead for around 15 minutes,” he added. Police later escorted her after lathicharging protesters.
When contacted, Tripati said: “We were protesting against the recent detention of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi. When the minister arrived, we stopped her car and showed her black flags.”
