A day after BJP in Uttar Pradesh accused the state government of not clearing any of the proposals submitted by the party MPs, chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Monday wrote two letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminding him of the pending requests for clearance to an international airport near Agra and inclusion of 17 most backward castes (MBCs) into the Scheduled Caste category.
Citing objections raised by the Defence Ministry over the sites for international airport proposed by the UP government in the past, Akhilesh has now proposed convert the airport at Saifai, his native village, in Etawah district into an international airport. He has also given another option of setting up the international airport at Bhadrauli in Bah tehsil of Agra. Akhilesh reminded Modi that he did not get any response to the letter written by him to PM last year in June.

“Defence Ministry had earlier raised objection to the Hirangaon site proposed by the state government in the past. Following this objection, I had written to you on June 11, 2014 but did not get any reply. Then I wrote another letter to Union Minister of Defence on February 11, 2015. I got the reply and accepted the objections raised,” the letter reads.
The UP government had earlier proposed the Taj International Greenfield Airport project at Hirangaon in Firozabad.
Citing the need to have an international airport in Agra, Akhilesh said that every year about 60 lakh domestic and 8 lakh foreign tourists visit the district for which construction of mere civil enclave is not enough. “For the construction of international airport, I am proposing two sites — Saifai Airport in Etawah and in Bah Tehsil of Agra,” he has written, requesting PM to get the study of the proposed sites conducted by the Defence and Civil Aviation ministries and inform the state government at the earliest possible.
In another letter to Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thawarchand Gehlot, seeking inclusion of 17 MBCs into the Scheduled Caste category in the state. These 17 castes include Kahar, Kashyap, Kewat, Mallah, Nishad, Kumhar, Prajapati, Dhivar, Bind, Bhar, Rajbhar, Dhimar, Batham, Turha, Goriya, Manjhi and Machua.
In the letter, CM has informed the Union Minister that state government has already submitted all the clarifications asked by the Registrar General on April 1, 2015.
On Sunday also, Akhilesh had written to PM seeking to expedite clearance of Public Investment Board for Lucknow Metro project. He had also raised other issues like “neglect” of maintenance of roads by NHAI in UP, and delay in granting SC status to the 17 MBCs.
