Celebratory firing leaves one dead, two injured

One person was killed and two were severely injured in celebratory firing during two marriage functions in villages in Moradabad and Meerut districts.

One person was killed and two were severely injured in celebratory firing during two marriage functions in villages in Moradabad and Meerut districts.

No arrests have been made despite strict instructions by state police chief Javeed Ahmed to take immediate action in such incidents. Meerut DIG Lakshmi Singh issued letters to the concerned SSPs and SPs to check celebratory firing and confiscate weapons.

Police said photographer Raju alias Pintu and Meekashi received bullet injuries in celebratory firing in Malakpur Sevali village in Moradabad. Both were rushed to hospital where Raju succumbed. In Budha village in Meerut, a boy was hit by a bullet and admitted to hospital in serious condition. On Wednesday, one Joginder had died during firing at a marriage function of the son of zila panchayat member Bharatveer in Nedu village. No arrest has been made in this connection.
