CHIEF MINISTER Akhilesh Yadav has written to all SP leaders to celebrate party president Mulayam Singh Yadav’s 76th birthday, falling on November 22, in every village across the state. This besides, the grand event the party is set to hold at Mulayam’s native place Saifai to mark the occasion.
There are nearly 50,000 villages in UP and for the first time, SP is celebrating Mulayam’s birthday in such a grand scale. This is the first time that Akhilesh has written such a letter to all former and current MPs, MLAs, MLCs, district and city unit presidents and all other frontal organisation leaders of SP.

He has told partymen to celebrate Mulayam’s birthday at polling booths. Since there are several polling booths in a village, a joint function will be organised at every village.
The function will be held at a public place, which should be properly illuminated to it give a festive look. Sweets and other freebies will be distributed among children and prayers for Mulayam’s long and healthy life will also be held. Write-ups about Mulayam’s political struggle has to be read out during the function, the letter stated.
Akhilesh has added that it is important for the party to inform the younger generations about Mulayam’s political struggle, and hence, such functions have to be organised.
He has also instructed that the period from the formation of SP in 1992 to the party coming to power with an absolute majority in 2012 should be elaborated upon.
For the SP, Mulayam’s birthday will serve as an occasion to galvanise the cadre up to the booth level. It will also give feedback about how active are the party’s booth level committees, which are yet to be fully constituted for the last three years.
At Saifai, preparations for a grand event to celebrate Mulayam’s 76th birthday has begun. The event, which will begin at 7 pm on November 21 with the cake cutting ceremony being held at midnight, will be witnessed by nearly one lakh people.
Bollywood celebrities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Khan and several others are likely to attend.
Several prominent political faces, including RJD chief Lalu Prasad, and top industrialists are also likely to grace the occasion. The star attraction will be a performance by composer A R Rahman and his 300-member troupe.
