Former Rae Bareli Chief Development Officer (CDO) Akhtar Riaz, who appeared before Lokayukta NK Mehrotra on Thursday in connection with the allotment of works from the local area development fund of four Samajwadi Party MLAs to an ineligible de-registered cooperative society, claimed that the status of the society was not checked by his subordinates in district rural development agency(DRDA).
Riaz was transferred from the post of Rae Bareli CDO,after Lokayukta started the inquiry. Mehrotra said Riaz claimed that he had allotted the work to the cooperative society,Rajya Sahkari Nirman Evam Vikas Sangh, without knowing about its eligibility status after he was asked by his subordinates. Mehrotra said Riaz blamed his subordinates for allotment of work to the ineligible institution.
Mehrotra added that Riaz has sought time to file his reply in writing and he has been asked to submit it in a week.
The MLAs who had recommended the name of the society for works from their local area development fund, had claimed that they did so after the CDO and other DRDA officials informed him that the society was eligible for executing works from local area development funds.
