Lucknow: With the state having the highest number of child labourers in the country,the UP government on Friday ordered periodic drives at district and tehsil levels. Chief Secretary Javed Usmani directed labour department officials to chalk out an effective strategy to identify child labourers and take up periodic drives through the district- and tehsil-level task forces at least once every three months. Usmani,who was chairing a meeting of the state-level child labour eradication and rehabilitation core committee,said that for each child labourer found employed in hazardous occupation,the employer should be made to pay compensation of Rs 20,000.

4 killed,5 injured in Fatehpur accident

Lucknow: Four persons,including two women,were killed and five injured on Friday when a truck dashed against an SUV in Shakurabad in Bakewar area of Fatehpur district,police said. The injured were rushed to hospital,where their condition was stated to be stable.

Bhadohi: A 22-year-old youth was run over by a train while he was crossing the track near Bhadoi railway station,police said. Gulam Hussain worked in a carpet unit.
