BSP leader ‘assaulted’ by SP workers at police station

A local BSP leader and chairman of a block development committee (BDC) in Amethi district was allegedly assaulted inside Munshiganj police station by local Samajwadi Party workers on Saturday.

While an FIR had been lodged against three persons on the complaint of the BDC chairman on Saturday,police also booked the chairman on Sunday on the complaint of one of the accused.

Jai Prakash Tiwari,chairman of Bhetua BDC,alleged that a sub-inspector came to him and asked him to come to the police station. He said he was having a dispute with Jay Bahadur Singh,a resident of Ghatampur village,over a piece of land near Amethi. Tiwari claimed Singh is an SP worker and supporter of Amethi MLA Gayatri Prasad who is now Minister of State for Irrigation.

Constable ‘commits suicide’ in Agra

A 56-year-old police constable reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle inside a police outpost under Khandauli police station of Agra district on Sunday morning.

Police said constable Daya Ram Mishra shot himself in the chest around 9.30 am when another constable posted at the outpost had gone to get tea from a nearby shop on Agra-Jalesar road. Khandauli station officer Sulabh Sharan said no suicide note was found from Mishra and the cause of his extreme step is not known.
