Court disposes of India’s oldest case

Ballia:A local court on Friday disposed of a 76-year-old case while directing 11 persons to return 600 acres of mortgaged land to a person for Rs 807. Last year,during review of old cases,the Supreme Court had considering this to be the oldest case of the country and directed for its speedy disposal,according to the court sources. The case was pending since 1936. The court on Friday ordered return of the land to the litigant after depositing Rs 807,prosecution said.

Encounter: CBI seeks nod to prosecute SSP

Lucknow:The CBI has sought permission from the Uttar Pradesh government to prosecute a Senior Superintendent of Police and 10 other policemen in connection with an alleged fake encounter case in Bareilly in 2007. “The CBI has sought prosecution sanction against SSP Lucknow J Ravindra Gaur,which is being considered by the government,” IG (law and order) BP Singh told reporters here on Friday. On June 30,2007,a businessman from Badaun Mukul Gupta was killed in a police encounter on the Bareilly-Delhi road.

Minor ‘gangraped’ at gunpoint

Meerut: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped at gunpoint by two youths in her house in Sururpur village here,police said on Friday. As the girl and the accused belong to different

communities,the incident led to tension in the area,following which forces were deployed in the village to maintain law and order,they said. “The girl’s parents work as labourers in Madhya Pradesh and she stays with her uncle here. Last night,she was alone at her house when two youths barged in and gangraped her at gunpoint,” a police spokesman said.
