A 10-year-old boy died in Sitapur on Monday when the police allegedly beat him up while asking him the whereabouts of a man wanted in rape case. The boy’s relatives have demanded a case of murder against the policemen and an inquiry has been ordered.

Sitapur SP Sitapur Preetinder Singh said,“The post-mortem report did not ascertain the cause of death and the viscera has been preserved for the forensic tests. The only injury on the boy’s body was a contusion mark below one of his knees.”

“The police team that raided the boy’s house claimed they had not assaulted the boy,but had taken his elder brother, who is 12-year-old,with them to seek his help in tracing the accused at a relative’s house,” the SP said, adding the circle officer of Biswan has been asked to probe the role of the policemen.

Singh said the boy was taken to his uncle’s house for questioning but when the police did not find the accused there, they left the boy at the house and left. “No case has yet been registered against the policemen so far. Action would be decided after the probe report is received,” the SP said.
