Modi in demand but not available for all
Several BJP candidates in UP want Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections. Since the demand is more than he can meet, the party will field Yogi Adityanath,Vinay Katiyar and Uma Bharati in his place, according to state party president Ramapati Ram Tripathi.
Modi is in demand because of his reputation as a good administrator, his charisma and oratory. So far,18 candidates in the state have asked for Modis public meetings in their constituencies.
The state BJP unit, however, has been told that Modi may be available for campaigning in UP for not more than two days, with five public meetings a day.
The party is,therefore, having a tough time deciding his itinerary.
Said Tripathi,We have a time constraint.
Since Modi will be moving across the country to campaign for the party,we will send him only to some important constituencies.
But the trio of Yogi Adityanath,Uma Bharati and Vinay Katiyar are also well-known faces and star campaigners.
Although the Yogi and Kaityar are themselves contesting the election from Gorakhpur and Ambedkarnagar,we will take them across the state for campaigning as they are leaders whose speeches always pull crowds. They will be helpful in those areas where we have to win back our voters, said Tripathi.
