Denying that he had uploaded any video promoting religious enmity on YouTube,BJPs Sardhana MLA Sangeet Singh Som,against whom a local court issued an arrest warrant on Wednesday, said that an FIR should be lodged against Azam Khan and not him as has been.
Terming the allegations baseless,Som said: I did not upload any video on YouTube or any other website. Neither have I distributed any CD,nor did I make any provocative speech during the mahapanchayat in Muzaffaranagar.
Speaking to media persons outside the state Assembly, after he was not allowed to by the Speaker during the discussion inside the House,Som said the Samajwadi Party government has named him in these cases to appease a particular community.
The objectionable video,he said, was uploaded by a Samajwadi Party worker and a person in his office had only shared it. I am ready to get arrested and face any inquiry.
The Muzaffaranagar riots,he said, were the result of the state government taking one-sided action in several cases to appease a particular community. Som also explained the reason behind his visit to the mahapanchayat. The Bharatiya Kisan Union had organised it and invited me as a public representative. But I did not make any provocative speech. The videos of the event should be checked, he said.
Even though he refused to comment when asked why the police have still not arrested him,he did clarify that he was not absconding. Being a public representative,I was in my constituency Sardhana then and I am here in the Assembly today.
Earlier,Som was accompanied to the Assembly by BJP vice-president Uma Bharti and party MLAs Suresh Rana and Hukum Singh, both named in the FIR,along with another BJP MLA Bhartendra Singh.
