Disappointed with the Allahabad High Court’s verdict to deny a CBI probe into the alleged police brutality in Bhatta-Parsaul in May last year, residents of the village have said they will file an appeal in the Supreme Court next week.

On Friday, adjudicating on a writ petition,a Division Bench said a new government has been formed and expressed hope that the CB-CID will conduct a fair investigation and take the matter to finality in four months.”

Residents of the village, however, are not convinced and said their only chance of justice was an impartial CBI probe. Mahesh Choudhary, pradhan of the village, said,“We know that there is a different government in place and the chances of a fair investigation have gone up. The CB-CID comprises their colleagues, and we do not trust that they will actually bring out the truth,” he added.
