Bareilly police on Sunday arrested a 40-year-old man for killing his wife over a suspected affair in Izzatnagar police station area of Bareilly. Police said the accused, Mukeem Ali, killed his wife Sabia and buried her in thickets two days ago. After Mukeem, a private driver, confessed during interrogation, police dug out the body and sent it for autopsy. The postmortem report is still awaited.

On Sunday, police produced Mukeem before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody. “Mukeem told police that he was suspecting his wife was having an extramarital affair, and he killed her in a fit of anger,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police, Akash Tomar.
A Fareedpur village native, Mukeem married Sabia around 12 years ago. They have three children, with the youngest being a 12-year-old son. Their two other sons work in Punjab as labourers. Police said the victim was alone at home at the time of incident, as her youngest son was in Punjab with his brothers.
Izzatnagar Station House Officer Ashok Kumar said the victim’s brother, also a resident of Bareilly, told police on Saturday that his sister had been missing since Friday evening. Police then questioned Mukeem at length, during which he confesse.
