The Uttar Pradesh Police have provided security to the family of a minor girl who had accused spiritual guru Asaram Bapu of raping her at his ashram in Jodhpur,Rajasthan,August 15. The girl’s father had filed an FIR against Asaram in Delhi.

Five policemen,including a sub-inspector,have been deployed outside the girl’s house in Shahjahanpur’s Kotwali area. Patrolling in the area have also been increased.

Shahjahanpur circle officer Rajeshwar Singh said even though there was no request for security from the girl’s family,forces have been deployed fearing attack from Asaram’s supporters. Kotwali Station Officer Jeet Singh said the Jodhpur police had met him in connection with the case. The team consisting of a sub-inspector and two constables visited the girl’s house Saturday.

The girl is a student of a gurukul in Chhindwara in MP. Her younger brother also studies there. The girl’s father,a staunch follower of Asaram,runs a transport business. Speaking over the phone,he said both Delhi and Jodhpur police questioned him,his wife and daughter. “Delhi Police have recorded my daughter’s statement before a magistrate,” the girl’s father said. Her medical examination has been conducted.
