Amarmani’s son booked for kidnapping, extortion

Convicted former UP minister Amarmani Tripathi’s son Amanmani Tripathi and two others were booked for kidnapping, extortion and other charges at Cantonment police station in Lucknow on Wednesday.

The complainant, Gorakhpur-based contractor Rishi Kumar Pandey, alleged that the accused kidnapped him while he was on way to Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Medical Institute (SGPGI) to get his wife examined and besides assaulting, demanded Rs one lakh from him.

Based on the complaint, the police registered an FIR against Amanmani, his associate Ravi and one unidentified person. No arrests have been made so far.

Pandey has said in his complaint that Amanmani and his associates, travelling in SUVs, stopped him and his wife Tuesday night in Gautampalli area on gunpoint and forced him to get into the SUV and took him to a house loca, they thrashed him while rasing demands for the money, adding that he knew the assailants since long and they were annoyed over his parting ways with them. Pandey had first arrived at the police station around 3.35 am, and had told them that he had gone with Amanmani and others on his own. “Few minutes later, he returned to the station and filed the complaint alleging that he was kidnapped and assaulted,” said Zaheer Khan, station house officer, Cantonment police station. Khan added that the since the incident took place in Gautampalli area, the investigation in the case will be transferred there.
