Members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Hindu outfits staged a protest after bodies of nearly sixty cows and oxen were found in a field in Uparhar village adjoining the Allahabad-Kanpur National Highway on Friday morning.
Soon senior officials rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area to prevent any untoward incident.
Nearly 60 animals were killed for meat and later,their bodies were thrown into the field. I have suspended the sub-inspector and two constables of the area and ordered for an FIR against the unidentified culprits, said the Deputy Inspector General of Police,Chandra Prakash,who rushed to the spot with IGP SK Shukla.
The IGP has ordered an enquiry into the incident. DM Rajeev Agrawal sent a team of doctors for the postmortem of the bodies.
Later,the bodies were buried in the same field.
The VHP members led by former BJP legislator NKS Gaur blocked the roads,condemning the killing of cows.
To prevent communal tension in the district,the administration should immediately initiate stern action against the culprits, said a leader.
Heavy police force has been deployed in the area,which has mixed population from both communities.
