Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will inaugurate the super-specialty block of Balrampur Hospital in Lucknow on Tuesday,a first-of-its-kind facility at any government hospital in the state.
The new block will have departments of neurology, gastroenterology, nephrology as well as urology, with both surgery and medicine facilities available at these departments.
The super-specialty block,a project pending since 2005,was completed recently with a budget of Rs 32 crore released by the state government earlier this year.
None of the district hospitals across the state has such facilities. Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Science in Lucknow and some other state medical colleges are the only centres that offer such super-specialty facilities.
The 100-bedded block will have three operation theaters for surgery and eight dialysis units for kidney patients. Until now,we could only put 8-10 patients out of 15-20 on dialysis in a day because of lack of staff. With the new facility,we will be in a better position to cater to all kidney patients and more efficiently, said
Director,Balrampur Hospital,Dr T P Singh.
Dr Singh said that the project was started in 2005 after former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav gave a token fund of Rs 1 crore.
To handle the new super-specialty wing,16 new posts for doctors and 45 for staff nurses have been sanctioned by the state government, against which 12 new doctors and 20 staff nurses have already been posted.
The government has also sanctioned a budget of Rs 33.37 crore for the construction of a new outpatient department (OPD) block in Balrampur Hospital.
