While addressing party workers who had assembled at SP office to convey New Year greetings, Mulayam said: “Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav meets everybody… when will he work? During my time, nobody used to meet me after 11 am. They used to meet only once, then I used to sit at the Secretariat and call all officials and do work. If you sit at annex for two hours, work will be done.”
Mulayam also lashed out at SP leaders who have been appointed as MLCs by the party. “Those who become MLCs consider themselves as raja, maharaja and do not interact with people. They are doing other business. I can see all this. Many people (MLAs and ministers) do not visit party office (district level) even once. I have all reports,” he added.
Cautioning partymen, Mulayam remarked: “The government is for the people but some people are engaged in mauj masti. I am sad at this. They will realise it when time comes. If all MLAs and ministers give in writing the issues faced by their constituencies, then the government has means to solve all problems.”
He added that being in government means service should be one’s motto while “some consider it for their development”. “It happened in West Bengal. When they had the motto of serving people, Left (Front) ruled for 34 years… When they stopped following the same, they were ousted,” said the SP chief.
“Conditions are for elections now. After February, no one will listen to anything except elections. Last elections, we won with the help of a cycle yatra and without spending much money,” Mulayam said.
