A Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) in Agra has allegedly recieved an extortion call of Rs 50 lakh from a wanted dacoit, Dhara Singh, who has over two dozen cases against him and is suspected to be hiding in Chambal ravines that stretches from Agra in UP to Madhya Pradesh.
A resident of Agra’s Bah area, Dhara Singh carries a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head.
Additional SP, Agra, Sameer Saurabh said they have deployed two police constables with rifles in security of CDPO Asha Dhingra.
On the basis of the complaint filed by Dhingra, an FIR has been lodged against the bandit at the New Agra police station.
A resident of Ganpati apartment in New Agra, Dhingra alleged she recieved a call from an unknown number while she was at home on
Friday evening. The caller identified himself as dacoit Dhara Singh and threatened her with dire consquences if she failed to pay him Rs 50 lakh. Several more calls followed from the same number on Dhingra’s phone but she did not take the calls. She went to the police station and got a case registered, said SHO, New Agra police station, Tasleem Ahmed.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh police Friday gunned down dacoit Balakdas who carried a reward of Rs 15,000 from UP and Rs 40,000 from Madhya Pradesh. The encounter took place in the thickets of Dhatia district.
Inspector General, Chambal operations, in Madhya Pradesh, Dinesh Chandra Sagar said, Balakdas was wanted in over a dozen cases in UP and over two dozens in Madhya Pradesh. The cases included those of extortion, attempt to murder and others. In UP, cases against Balakdas were lodged in Jhansi, Jalaun and other districts.
Tye IG added in the encounter operation Balakdas’s associate Dinesh Jatav was also killed and an associate Seda Datia was arrested.
