Across state,mercury touches 45+ deg C

The state continued to bear the brunt of scorching sun as mercury touched almost 48 degrees Celsius in Allahabad. Met office sources here said that several districts recorded temperature above 40 degrees Celsius with weather remaining dry over all divisions of the state.

Temperature remained above normal in Allahabad,Meerut divisions and appreciably above normal in Varanasi,Faizabad,Kanpur,Lucknow,Moradabad,Jhansi,Agra divisions.

Highest maximum temperature in the state was 47.8 deg C at Allahabad followed by Banda 47.4 deg C,Agra 47.1 deg C,Hamirpur 46.6 deg C,Jhansi 46.4 deg C,Aligarh and Varanasi 45.2 deg C and Meerut 45 deg C which was three to five degrees above normal.

Heatwave conditions would continue to prevail in the state during the next 24 hours,Met sources added.

In Muzaffarnagar,two persons died here due to the intense heat wave conditions. Among them was a rickshaw puller Yakub (35) and Delhi resident Chandrakanta,who was travelling to Dehradun.
