A NURSE, along with her younger sister, were on Tuesday arrested for throwing acid on a would-be-bride in Cantonment area of Bareilly on November 27. Anamika Singh (25), the nurse, was allegedly in a relationship with the groom and wanted to stop the wedding, police said.
On Sunday, Anjana Bora (24) was getting ready for her wedding with Saurabh Singh — her fiance of six months — at a guesthouse when two girls, claiming to be from the groom’s side, entered her room and threw acid on her. As the two girls managed to flee, Anjana was rushed to the hospital with serious burns on her face, chest and stomach. She later returned and got married before going back to the hospital again.

Anamika was accompanied to the guesthouse by her sister Shivangi (23). “Anamika said she was in a relationship with Saurabh Singh for the last two years. She was angry because Saurabh was marrying another girl,” said Bareilly SP (City) Sameer Saurabh.
He added: “We reviewed video footages of the wedding and spoke to all guests but could not get a clue about the attack. During investigation, we received a tip-off that a nurse employed in a private hospital in the area was behind the attack.”
“We collected the cellphone number of Anamika… The call details showed that she was constant touch with the groom. Saurabh too had regularly called her from his cellphone. We interrogated Saurabh, who confirmed their relationship. Anamika too was questioned later and she confessed,” said the SP (City).
