A 55-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by two unidentified young men at her house in Tagore Town today.
Shobha Kesarwani, wife of Madan Lal Kesarwani, was hit several times on her head with a kitchen pestle. The police have not ruled out the role of an insider.
According to the police,Shobha,a resident of Hashimpur locality, let the accused into her house in the afternoon. It is not yet clear whether they had an argument with the victim. But they managed to find the iron pestle and hit her on the head several times, said Station Officer (George Town) Inspector Dhananjay Mishra. When Shobhas daughter-in-law,Supriya,saw the assailants attacking her mother-in-law,she went inside a room in panic and locked it from inside.
She then raised an alarm, which alerted the neighbours. The assailants then fled. Shobha was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead, said Mishra.
Superintendent of Police (City) Shailesh Yadav said that several questions needed to be answered in connection with the incident.
This was not a robbery attempt. Also, hitting somebody on the head seemed to be a deliberate act. But if it was pre-planned,the assailants were likely to have carried their own weapon. They, however, managed to get hold of the weapon of offence, which was kept inside a cupboard. How did they come to know that the pestle was kept there? We will be questioning various people in this connection, said Yadav.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Shobhas husband Madan Lal was involved in share trading, while his son Vikas did not have a permanent source of income. Supriya has so far only told the police that the assailants were young. A case of murder has been registered at George Town police station.
