A panel of five lawyers has been assisting public prosecutor in the ongoing trial against four alleged HuJI operatives, including Khalid Mujahid, who were accused in the Faizabad court blast of November 23,2007.

The lawyers were engaged by Faizabad Bar Association last month following UP government’s move to withdraw the case. The Anti-Terrorist Squad had filed chargesheet against Mohammad Tariq Qasmi,Mohammad Akhtar,Sajjadur-Rehman and Khalid Mujahid in the Faizabad court blast case.

“Lawyers were selected after Bar Association,Faizabad passed a resolution after the state government’s plan to withdraw the case against the accused booked in the blast case. We want that the accused should face trial and if they are innocent they would come out clean,” said advocate Priyanath Singh, who is one of the five lawyers engaged in the case.

Other lawyers in the panel include advocate J Singh, who is president of Faizabad Bar Association, advocate K K Pandey, advocate Vishwanath Singh and advocate Satish Chandra Srivastava.

The five lawyers are representing advocate Mansoor Ilahi, who is the complainant of the blast case and was Bar Association secretary when the blast took place. The bar association had intimated Faizabad’s District Judge and District Magistrate about fighting the case on behalf of Ilahi,as the trial is going on in Faizabad jail.

Advocate Vishwanath Singh said,“They are appearing in the case since April. We are working as a watchdog and providing legal aid to the public prosecutor.”
