A 26-year-old woman, selected as an assistant commandant in the Central Reserve Police Force and was scheduled to go for training on July 27,was found dead on the railway track soon after she left home for a morning walk in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar area on Thursday.

The police suspect Poonam Yadav died after being hit by a train while crossing the railway track. She had major injuries in the head and legs.

The track is less than 1 km from the victim’s residence in Vinay Khand. Neither the police nor the family have any clue as to how she reached the railway track. The post-mortem examination report is awaited.

“There is no witness to the incident. We are waiting for the postmortem report to reach a conclusion,” said sub-inspector Sukhbir Singh who was the first cop to reach the spot. The police said they were told about the body lying on the track by passersby.

The family suspect it to be an accident. “She was happy over her selection in the CRPF,she was keen on the training,” said her father Bhola Singh, who is finance controller at the Employment Directorate. Poonam was the only daughter of Singh, who also has two sons.
