19-yr-old man booked for ‘killing’ minor

According to police, local residents spotted flamed emanating from a field early Tuesday morning and rushed to the spot.

An FIR has been lodged against 19-year-old Rahul Singh for allegedly killing and setting ablaze the body of a 16-year-old girl from his neighbourhood at Faiznagar village under Civil Lines Police Station area in Rampur on Tuesday.

According to police, local residents spotted flamed emanating from a field early Tuesday morning and rushed to the spot. They pulled out a partially burnt body from the fire, following which they informed the police who sent the body for autopsy. Doctors had preserved viscera for further examination after post-mortem report failed to ascertain the cause of death.

Station House Officer, Civil Lines Police Station, Faheem Ahmed Khan said, “After the body was pulled out from the fire, one Rukam Singh claimed the body belongs to his daughter, Neerja, who was missing. Incidentally, the body was found burning behind Singh’s house.”

Singh, a farmer, lodged an FIR against Rahul on charges of murder and destruction of evidence at the Civil Lines Police Station. The police have yet to arrest the accused.
