13 elected unopposed to Legislative Council

With exactly 13 candidates filing their nominations,Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and 12 others were declared elected unopposed to the Legislative Council at the end of the deadline for the withdrawal of nominations on Thursday.

With exactly 13 candidates filing their nominations,Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and 12 others were declared elected unopposed to the Legislative Council at the end of the deadline for the withdrawal of nominations on Thursday.

Besides Akhilesh,seven of the candidates belonged to the ruling Samajwadi Party,three to the main opposition Bahujan Samaj Party,and one each to the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal.

In addition,SP candidate Arvind Singh was declared elected to the Rajya Sabha to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Rasheed Masood. Since Akhilesh is not a member of the Assembly,he had to enter either house of the state legislature within six months of taking oath as chief minister. Other winners from the ruling party were Revenue Minister Ambika Chaudhary,Imam Bukhari’s son-in-law Umar Ali Khan,party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary,Madhu Gupta,Ram Sakal Gurjar,Naresh Chandra Uttam and Vijay.

Winners from BSP are Vijay Pratap,Sunil Kumar and Thakur Jaiveer Singh,from the BJP Mahendra Singh and from the RLD Chaudhary Mushtaque Ahmed. Except the Chief Minister,all were present when Pradeep Dubey,Principal Secretary to the Vidhan Sabha,declared the results.
