That Chief Minister Narendra Modi is in a campaign mode is evident from the events’ calendar that the state government has planned with him at the centre. And these events have been planned till February next year. Add to this Modi’s whirlwind election campaign tours and one knows that the CM has a packed schedule in the months to come.

There are at least seven events — involving businessmen to farmers from across the country and abroad — planned by the Gujarat government during this period. These will complement others planned by the BJP or independent groups outside Gujarat.

The idea is to propagate the Gujarat growth story from state-of-the-art venue like Mahatma Mandir and Gujarat University Convention centre, both built for Vibrant Gujarat summits. There will be tourism function on the sidelines — Navratri festival next month,Rann Utsav in December and kite flying festival in January. Further, the BJP has planned an elaborate function to celebrate Modi’s 63rd birthday this month.

Simultaneously,Modi will tour the poll-bound states as BJP’s star campaigner. On September 7,he will address a rally in Chhattisgarh, followed by one in Rajasthan on September 10,Haryana on September 15,Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan on September 25. In October,he will be in Bihar for the Hunkar Rally and then visit Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The biggest of the seven government events is the three-day Vibrant Gujarat Agro Tech Summit 2013,beginning on September 9. “We are in the process of mobilising farmers from across the country. At least one farmer from each of the 671 districts in India will be present at the event, whose inaugural and valedictory functions will be presided over by the CM. We will tell the story of the double digit agricultural growth in Gujarat and exchange technologies and innovations with others,” said a top official.

“Between October 17 and 27,three events will be held at Mahatma Mandir,Gandhinagar, accompanied by exhibitions on the helipad ground opposite the Udhyog Bhavan,” said an iNDEXTb official.

An international exhibition by Agrotech Asia will be held simultaneously to draw traders from across the world. This summit will serve as a platform for Modi to mobilise farmers to donate iron pieces for his ambitious project of building the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (182 m) on Sadhu bet,an island near Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadia Colony. The collection of iron is to begin on Sardar’s birthday,October 31.

BJP spokesperson I K Jadjeja said,“The BJP will begin mobilising grassroots workers from September 17,birthday of Modi. In a week’s time, the party plans to include 15 lakh new members; one lakh youths will be mobilised to connect with Modi on the social media. The drive will end on September 25,birthday of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay.”
