AS Governor M K Narayanan was approaching towards Presidency University on Friday evening to take stock of the situation there after Trinamool Congress workers allegedly ransacked the historic Baker laboratory two days ago,Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called Vice-Chancellor Malabika Sarkar from Belle Vue nursing home where she is admitted to express “deep regrets over the incident”.

“Chief Minister assured that Presidency University was her prime focus and for the its development, she will provide all help,” Sarkar told mediapersons.

She also assured the V-C that all the culprits involved in the ransacking of the campus will be brought to book.

Sarkar said,“The Chief Minister said that Presidency was her dream project and she wouldn’t let anything come in the way of achieving that goal.”

On Thursday ,Education Minister Bratya Basu had met the V-C and assured compensation to repair the laboratory, which was renovated only a month ago.

Sarkar said after the Wednesday violence in which students and teachers were also beaten up,many are afraid to attend the classes. “So this assurance from the chief minister has given enough courage to them,” she added.

The CM assured to deploy additional police on the campus to avoid such untoward incidents. Mamata’s assurance to V-C comes as some of her senior ministers had publicly slammed Sarkar for speaking to media about the attack.

‘TMC not involved’

Senior TMC leader Partha Chatterjee, meanwhile, asserted that no party workers were involved in the Presidency violence.
