The cousin and a friend of a call centre employee were stabbed to death Saturday allegedly by a team leader of the company and his accomplices in a dispute over the employee seeking leave on the occasion of the birth of his son.
Sunil Kumar,an employee at Serco Global Services in Gurgaon,was himself seriously injured in the attack which took place around 1.30 am in Udyog Vihar Phase-4,police said.
They said Kumar did not report to work on Thursday night-Friday morning when his shift begins just after midnight. Later on Friday,he is said to have called his team leader Mukesh Bisht asking for another days leave saying his wife had given birth to a son and there was a function in the family.
Bisht allegedly denied him leave and asked Kumar to report to work. Kumar is believed to have told him that he had responsibilities at home as well and that he would come to office and explain.
Late on Friday night,Kumar,his cousin Ram Avatar and a friend Devender drove from Farukkhnagar to the Serco office to meet Bisht,a team leader in the sales department.
Bisht,who is in his late twenties,came out of the call centre campus with five men and allegedly got into an altercation with Kumar,Ram Avatar and Devender,police said.
The verbal abuses led to a fistfight and Sunil was stabbed but he survived. however,his cousin and friend lost their lives, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal said. Mukesh is on the run while Sunil has been admitted to hospital.
A cab driver on night duty who witnessed the fight told The Sunday Express a few people came out of the office and began hitting each other on the street. Three men jumped a wall near a large ground and ran towards the main road. Two other men ran towards a rickshaw and urged him to take them towards the area where the men were running.
Just a few metres away from their office,Bisht and others caught up with Kumar and his accomplices. Police said Bisht held both Devender and Ram Avatar while two men,Pawan and Ram,allegedly stabbed them to death. Both bodies were found a few metres away from each other near a construction site.
Kumar was stabbed in the back when he tried to escape,police said. He ran to the PCR stationed nearby and told the police what had happened. The police reached the spot in 15 minutes but by then the culprits had fled and both his accomplices had died.
Police said Pawan had been arrested and they were looking for the rest.
Serco declined to comment when contacted by The Sunday Express.
