Environmentalist Sunita Narain injured in road mishap

Director general for the Centre of Science and Environment was hit by a vehicle.

Director general for the Centre of Science and Environment (CSE),Sunita Narain,was injured in an accident after she was hit by a vehicle on Sunday morning. The incident,reported from South Delhi’s Green Park area,took place while she was cycling to Lodhi Garden,police said.

According to police,Narain (52),who lives in Green Park,was under the AIIMS flyover when an unidentified vehicle that was reversing hit her.

Police said a passerby rushed her to the AIIMS Trauma Centre,but no PCR call was made. Narain’s statement,police said,is yet to be recorded.

Police said there was swelling on both of Narain’s forearms and hands and she has a lacerated wound on her nose.

Sources said Narain had a nose fracture and some injuries in her ribs. “A surgery was performed in the morning on her ribs. By the evening,she was shifted to the ward,” a doctor at AIIMS Trauma Centre said. AIIMS director Dr M C Misra said,“She is stable and recovering well now.”

Narain is in the ICU. A case under sections of rash and negligent driving has been registered at Hauz Khas police station.
