‘With new govt in power,relations will improve’

There are no terrorist camps in Bangladesh and an awareness campaign has been launched along the border to check smuggling,said Colonel Mahmud Emdadul Islam,Khulna Sector Commander of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) on Sunday.

Colonel Islam was speaking at a joint press conference organised by the Border Security Force and the BDR at the Petrapole border in North 24 Paraganas.

Before the conference,BSF DG Mahendra Lal Kumawat,who was on a visit to Petrapole and Bongaon borders,had a meeting with Colonel Islam.

“With a new government coming to power,relations between the two countries will definitely improve,” DG Kumawat said.

The BSF DG,who also met troops at Haridaspur,said the Centre would deploy one battalion at the Bengal border soon. “This will be one of the 29 battalions to be raised by the government. The Centre will also buy equipment worth Rs 3,200 crore for the forces,” DG Kumawat said.

He added that Pakistan-based terrorists were trying to cross over to India using the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bangladesh border. “We will have to foil their attempts at any cost,” DG Kumawat said.
