Kolkata:Samir Bandhopadhyay,a professor of Calcutta University,has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) for a period of six months. Bandhopadhyay will take charge of his new post on June 10. He was earlier Registrar of WBUT. The incumbent V-C of WBUT,Sabyasachi Sengupta,was sacked by the state education department after different probe committees found him guilty of financial irregularities,favouritism and harassment of teachers and students. The CID too has initiated an inquiry against Sengupta in connection with alleged financial irregularities.
TMC man gets life sentence for rape
Krishnagar:A local court here sentenced four persons,including a Trinamool Congress leader of Nadia district,to life imprisonment on Friday for the rape and murder of a minor girl of Bahirgachhi. Additional District and Sessions Judge Third Court of Naida Anjali Sinha convicted and sentenced Shyamal Bhattacharjee and three others for rape and murder of a class VI student in 2009.
