The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) announced that it will field ten candidates across the state for the Lok Sabha elections.
At a party meeting on Friday,Provash Ghosh, state secretary of SUCI,said though the party supported the Trinamool over issues like Nandigram and Singur,it has not approved the Trinamool-Congress
The Congress and the Trinamool have different manifestos for elections and the alliance is merely an understanding on seat-sharing, said Ghosh.
How can we support an alliance with parties like Congress,BJP and CPM,which have done undemocratic things for the people across the country and the state, he added.
Places like Malda (North),Raiganj and Murshidabad where the SUCI has fielded its candidates are Congress bastions.
Except Joynagar, where the Trinamool has not fielded any candidate and left the seat for SUCI,all the other nine seats have Congress candidates.
The Congress government has always been anti-people. During the Nandigram and Singur crisis, they did not say anything against the CPM hence we do not support its alliance with the Trinamool, said Ghosh.
The SUCI has never won a LS seat but this time the party is hopeful. Ghosh also dispelled the rumors that Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee had asked the party to withdraw its candidates from the seats where the Congress was contesting.
She has not requested anything from us in this regard. In fact,we cannot accept any such request from Banerjee as we are contesting these seats on our own, he added.
