Two die,20 injured in Kalyani Expressway accident

Two persons were killed and about 20 others were injured when the mini-bus in which they were traveling overturned near Dakhin Narayanpur on Kalyani Expressway around 6.30 am on Sunday.

Two persons were killed and about 20 others were injured when the mini-bus in which they were traveling overturned near Dakhin Narayanpur on Kalyani Expressway around 6.30 am on Sunday.

Twelve of the injured are still in critical condition,the police said.

According to eye-witnesses,all the occupants of the bus were returning from a wedding party in Nadia. When they neared Dakhin Narayanpur,the driver spotted a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction and in order to avoid a head-on collision,he lost control of the mini-bus.

While Bisakha Sarkar,a 22-year-old student,died on the spot,Ramanath Sarkar,who was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital at Kalyani by locals,died later.

All the injured were admitted in various hospitals at Naihati,Bhatpara and also at the RG Kar Hospital. The police are trying to arrest the truck driver who fled the spot with the vehicle soon after the accident.

Meanwhile,in another mishap,Sanjib Raha,a lawyer at Basirhat court,was killed after his bike was hit by a speeding truck at Baduria’s Kathiahat Road. Following the accident,locals blocked the road. Later,the blockade was lifted by the police.
