Trinamool MP Saugata Roy on Saturday condemned recent attacks on college teachers by students saying such incidents are a shame on civilized society.

His comments, which may cause major embarrassment to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, came after few incidents of assault on college teachers by his own party workers. “When I see the incidents of students humiliating teachers by pulling their shirts and trousers,I feel very bad. I think it is better not to live any more. Such type of incidents should not be tolerated. It is the duty of the state government to provide security to the teachers. I am sure that the state government is very serious about it,” Roy said at a programme of Principals’ Council on Saturday evening.

Though Roy did not take any names,it is clear that his comment was aimed against party’s former MLA Arabul Islam who had allegedly assaulted a teacher of Bhangar College a couple of months back. Prior to that incident, local Trinamool leaders had allegedly assaulted the principal of Raiganj college. In yet another incident,Trinamool Chatra Parishad activists allegedly humiliated the principal of a college in Birbhum district in such a way that he became unconscious. The incidents raised a storm of criticism and the CM had summoned Arabul and reprimanded him.

Roy also advised the college teachers to write to the state government if incident of assault on them occurs. If justice is denied, college teachers can even follow the path of satyagraha,Roy said.
