TMC effects merger of 17 unions

With a view to putting an end to the internecine feud among the 17 different state government employees’ unions showing allegiance to the Trinamool Congress that have sprung up following the party’s coming to power,Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday effected a merger of all the unions at a convention held in Kolkata.

With a view to putting an end to the internecine feud among the 17 different state government employees’ unions showing allegiance to the Trinamool Congress that have sprung up following the party’s coming to power,Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday effected a merger of all the unions at a convention held in Kolkata.

Commerce and Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee,who presided over the function,will be the head of the 5-member ad hoc committee responsible for running the affairs of the unified union,which will be called United State Government’s Employees’ Federation.

Two other ministers — Subrata Mukherjee and Purnendu Bose — will advise the new outfit. A state convention of the union will be held in January where the constitution and office bearers of the federation will be decided. The Chief Minister will be present at the event.

“From now on,all the employees under the federation will work under one banner and anybody violating the rules will be expelled,’’ said Partha.

He also said that the employees will be told to launch campaign against FDI in retail,pension and insurance bill and all the issues the party is fighting.
