A Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor has been accused of murdering a villager and a complaint has been filed against him and eight others in Sainthia town in Birbhum.

Sishu Bagdi, the villager and a Congress supporter was killed outside his Latepara residence on the night of October 14,allegedly by 10 armed TMC cadres. “Sishu was at home and these people called him outside saying they had some urgent business. When he came out, they rained blows on him and then attacked him with choppers,” said one of Bagdi’s neighbours. He was taken to the government hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Ganesh Das,a councillor under Sainthia municipality, has been accused of the murder. Sources said it was more out of personal vendetta than any political reason. “Ganesh and Sishu had been at loggerheads for a long time, much before Ganesh became an active TMC member or the councillor. They had a family dispute as well and the murder had been the outcome of that,” a source close to Bagdi’s family of the deceased said.

A complaint has been filed at the Sainthia police station against nine persons, including Ganesh.
