A day after state labour minister Purnendu Bose mooted the idea of having an apolitical common platform of all state government employees irrespective of their political ideologies,Bengals politically polarised government staffers ridiculed the proposal calling it as an absurd move.
Employee associations having allegiance to CPM,Congress and Trinamool have dismissed the proposal – much before it was officially placed by the labour department – saying they cannot share a common platform because of difference of political belief and ideology.
Only a person with an unstable mindset can moot such an idea. Is it possible for all employees to come on a single platform ignoring their political difference? They hold different opinions about political parties. If such a proposal comes,we would not hesitate to reject with without giving much thought, the general secretary of CPM-controlled Coordination Committee,Ananta Banerjee, told The Indian Express. The world is divided because there are so many political ideologies. Is it possible in a politically driven society to bring all that in a common platform. Not only the coordination committee, but also all employees organisations would reject the idea of floating a single platform of government employees. It is not possible for us to join hands with associations controlled by either Congress or Trinamool, Banerjee said.
Pro-Trinamool Federation of Secretariat Employees, affiliated to the State Government Employees Federation (UNIFIED),is of the opinion that Bose has shown good gesture by mulling the idea of a single platform of all the state government employees, but it can never transform into reality because of collision among different political thoughts of the employees.
It (Boses proposal) seems to be an utopian move in the present political scenario. We have given a call for the unification of all the employees unions, which have a belief in nationalism. In the recently held state conference of State Government Employees Federation, which was attended by Union minister for shipping Mukul Roy,a call has been given for unification and formation of United States Government Employees Federation. Will Coordination accept our call? No,it will not simply because they dont think like us. So how does the question of bringing Coordination and its rival associations in a common platform come? We respect Boses sentiment as he wants unity of all employees irrespective of their political belief. But doing so in the present political scenario is almost impossible, Sanjib Paul, general secretary of Federation of Secretariat Employees said.
The leaders of the Confederation of State Government Employees, affiliated to Congress controlled INTUC,hold similar opinion. We live in a multi-party democratic system. Though the state government employees cannot directly associate themselves with any political outfit, all of us know which organisation is affiliated to which political party. More precisely I would like to say that it is not possible for us to stand shoulder to shoulder with either Coordination Committee or organisations affiliated to Trinamool, Malay Mukherjee of Confederation of State Government Employees (affiliated to INTUC),said.
