A class VI student on Thursday jumped to her death from the fifth floor of her school building after she was allegedly scolded and slapped by her teacher for talking during a class test,the police said.
The incident happened around 8 am at St Dominique Savio School at Golabari area in Howrah.
Aparna Mishra,12,was writing her Chemistry test when she is said to have caught talking to a fellow student. The teacher,Brij Kishore Prasad,reportedly scolded her,slapped her,took away her answer scripts and sent her out of the class. The girl then jumped from the fifth floor of the building and died on the spot,the police said.
The girl was taken to a local nursing home where she was declared brought dead. Her father,Shiv Narayan Mishra,later filed a written complaint at Golabari Police station against the teacher and principal Dilip Kumar Dubey.
Prasad was later detained by police for interrogation.
Sources in the police said the teacher had confessed to beating Aparna and taking away her answer script but said he didnt sent the girl out of the class. In his statement,Prasad said Aparna later took his permission to go toilet and then committed suicide.
