The government today told the Calcutta High Court that the state did not issue any notification on its website to withdraw a notification issued on November 23,2011,on doctors serving in rural areas.

Advocate Rajarshi Haldar, the doctors’ counsel, had told the court that the state had issued a notification for withdrawal of the earlier notification. Today he said that the withdrawal notification appeared in the state government’s website a few days ago and was deleted later. Some doctors had taken a printout of the notification,he said.

The health department had issued a notification on November 23 last year regarding admission in the MD course conducted by the West Bengal University of Health Science (WBUHS). It stated that as an incentive, the WBUHS officers serving in rural and remote areas would get additional weightage for the numbers of years spent in rural areas. Some doctors later challenged the notification in the high court.
