BJP LEADER Mukul Roy was on Thursday booked for allegedly trying to influence a case, in which a woman has accused Rajya Sabha MP and former CPM leader Ritabrata Banerjee of raping her on the pretext of marrying her. In her complaint lodged at Balurghat police station in South Dinajpore district, the woman has alleged that an aide of Roy was pressuring her to withdraw her complaint against Banerjee.

“Roy has been booked under sections including 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 195 A (threatening someone to give false evidence), 214 (offering gift to shield an offender) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC,” said a police officer.
Sources in the police said that in her complaint, the woman has named Banerjee’s fiancée Durba Sen and a physician, Archana Mazumdar, who is reportedly close to Roy.

Speaking to mediapersons, Roy said: “I don’t even know who she is. I haven’t even seen or spoken to her. Bengal is witnessing a police rule. Some people are scared of me because they know how much damage I can do if I get proactive.”

The complainant, while speaking to a Bengali news channel, said: “Majumdar called me and said that I will be in trouble if I didn’t withdraw my complaint against Banerjee, as Mukul Roy is a very influential person. She also said Rs 8 lakh has been transferred to my account. After the call, I lodged a complaint under non-bailable sections of the IPC against Roy. I was even told that Ritabrata is related to him.”
