After the assault of a college teacher in-charge allegedly by SFI activists at Kalinagar college in Sandeshkhali in North-24 Paraganas on Saturday, the Governor remarked that “the students who beat the teacher should be beaten up” which sparked off controversy and over which the APDR submitted its deputation

“Yes,an APDR branch has submitted a deputation to state Human Rights Commission against the Governor’s statement of beating up students who beat teachers. We condemn such a statement from a person like the Governor,” APDR general secretary Dhiraj Sengupta said.

Asked about the postponement of students’ election,he said,“The idea was not to politicise student unions.”
