A day after his party colleague and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi commended her government,BJP chief Rajnath Singh reached out to Mamata Banerjee by speaking to her over telephone on Wednesday and condemning the SFI attack on her and Amit Mitra in Delhi.

“I strongly condemn what has happened. In clean politics,it is expected that if a political party wants to lodge its protest on an issue, there is a way to do so… but if some people resort to violence, the government should take stern steps against them,” he said.

Singh demanded a proper probe into the incident and said that he was in agreement with Mamata that Delhi was unsafe. The law and order situation in the Capital,he said, was “slipping into anarchy”.
