Ragged marine student critical

A first-year student of Institute of Maritime Academy,Taratala,has been hospitalised in critical condition after allegedly being ragged by senior students.

A first-year student of Institute of Maritime Academy,Taratala,has been hospitalised in critical condition after allegedly being ragged by senior students.

Doctors said that Pritam Mishra had suffered injuries on his head,leg and hands,and that he cannot speak.

College authorities said that a test identification parade would be conducted after Pritam joins college. If he can identify the accused,strict action would be taken against them.

On Wednesday night,some second and third-year students reportedly asked Pritam to do 500 pushups. Some of his classmates tried to help him but backed off fearing similar harassment.

Pritam,whose family stays in Noida,sent a text message to his father saying he was being ragged. His father R K Mishra rushed here in the night and admitted him to a private hospital. A complaint was lodged with Taratala police station.

Mishra said he did not want to keep Pritam in the hostel after this incident.
