Patient commits suicide in Kolkata

A 35-year old woman patient committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling inside the toilet of the eye department of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Kolkata:A 35-year old woman patient committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling inside the toilet of the eye department of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday. Mina Saha was admitted on August 4 after she complained of acute inflammation in her left eye. Doctors said she was not recovering well and she was advised to undergo an operation as there was a cyst in her eye. After that she was bit depressed and started speaking less. On Tuesday,when her husband came to meet her,she didn’t speak much with him. Parthajit Banerjee,Medical Superintendent of the hospital,said they were still not certain why she committed suicide. Police are investigating whether any family dispute would have prompted her to commit suicide.

Gas power plant on the cards

Kolkata:In view of the coal crisis in thermal power plants,the West Bengal government has mooted a plan to set up gas based power plants in the state in the PPP model. “There is a preliminary thought for a gas-based power plant but the same is dependent on availability and price,” state special power secretary M K De said. The state was trying to harness the CBM gas available in the state. On the sidelines of a seminar,Essar officials confirmed that a meeting was held by state officials on allocating gas for power plant. The state will help in allocating gas and identify land for the gas based power plant. “If we are successful in securing gas at competitive price then we will invite bid from private sector. The company which will offer power at the cheapest price will get the project,” power department officials said.
