It seems ministers of Mamata Banerjee work in isolation and the phrase “right hand doesn’t know what the left hand does” seems to aptly describe the state of affairs.

On Wednesday, while speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a business seminar,Commerce and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee talked about his government’s “plan” to draft a policy on renewable energy. “It is being drafted by Power Minister Manish Gupta now and it is too early to give details,” he said convincingly. But what he did not know that minutes later Power Minister corrrected him in a way by saying that the Cabinet has already approved the Renewable Energy Policy, which has been put on the government website.

Ironically, such a lack of coordination between different ministers was exposed within minutes of Partha talking about “the efforts needed for a better coordination between different departments of the government”.

Partha Chatterjee, who while speaking about the renewable energy policy “draft” had even advised mediapersons to meet power minister to get a lowdown on the policy. “The policy will be a guideline of the optimal usage of renewable energy in our state. Whether it was industry specific or domestic would be elaborated later once the cabinet passes it,” he said.

When contacted power minister said there was nothing new to talk about it. “It was passed by the Cabinet on July 5 and has been put up on the website. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself has written the foreword of the policy,” Gupta told The Indian Express.
