A woman refused to accept before the Calcutta High Court the second DNA test report that confirmed her newborn to be a girl as opposed to her claim of giving birth to a male child.

On January 17,Sarwari Begum, mother of a son and a daughter, shortly after her delivery at the R G Kar Medical College, was informed by one of the nurses that the newborn is a male. But when the hospital authorities brought before her a girl,Begum refused to accept the baby, saying she gave birth to a male child.

To dispel the confusion, the hospital authorities arranged to conduct a DNA test, the report of which confirmed that Begum gave birth to a girl child. The mother, however, refused to accept the report and took the matter to the Calcutta High Court.

The court,on June 13,ordered for another DNA test. After taking blood samples of the newborn,Begum and her husband,it was confirmed the child belonged to the couple.

Begum once again rejected the report.

Government pleader Ashoke Banerjee informed the court that hospital staff had shown a male child to Begum by mistake, which resulted in the confusion.

Justice Banerjee has asked Begum to ponder on the issue and inform the court of her decision by tomorrow.
